Current Projects

My work consists of methods devlopment and network simulations which test computational features of neuronal networks. After developing and testing methods, kind colleagues allow us to collaborate in order to analyze biological data from in-vivo and in-vitro samples.

Applications

Hippocampal learning in mice

What network signatures of learning are present shortly after contextual-fear conditioning in mice? Does the formation of neural-structure modify the dynamics of network evolution.

Oscillations and network stability

Are sub-threshold rhythms in the brain used to coordinate network synchrony? How correlated is network stability with the presence of specific network rhythms?

Methods Development

Determining functional connectivity in neuronal networks

How can we accurately and efficiently predict functional or anatomical connectivity between neurons based upon current data acquisition methods?

Measuring dynamical changes in neuronal networks

What important dynamical features can be measured in neuronal networks based upon current and expected next-generation data acquisition methods. What sort of measurements scale reliably as the dimensionality of network data increases?

Visualizing high-dimensional network data

What visualization techniques are optimal for capturing changes in large networks?

Simulation Work

Optimal computational properties of neuronal networks

What physical properties of neuronal networks are essential for key computational features of brain networks (ex. reliable signal propagation, robustness, plasticity, ...).

Two-speed brain networks

Astrocytes outnumber neurons and are bi-directionally coupled to neurons. What impact do astrocytic networks have on neurons?
